Spice is nice: Tamarind offers a southern style of Indian cuisine


Tamarind's suburban location is almost strictly southern Indian, the Oakland version includes more northern Indian favorites, including meat, poultry, seafood and vegetable curries with rice, enabling this new restaurant to both complement and compete with Oakland's other nearby curry houses.

Our theme is fine Indian food in elegant surroundings with exceptional service to match. We have a limited menu. Limiting the menu helps us control the quality of the food we serve. Changing the buffet gives our customers the opportunity to come and try something new multiple times in the same week. Most importantly, come check us out to see that spicy and hot are two different concepts. Most of our entrees are spicy and flavorful but not necessarily hot. Almost all the entrees are our family recipes which are unique to our restaurant. The Quality food we are know for at our location in Greentree is carried over to this new place with a class of its own.

We offer a family friendly environment in a cozy 120 year old house which was renovated to provide you a really unique dining experience. All aspects of the building have been restored to their original grandeur thanks to our architect Vincent A. Finizio who understood our vision and helped us during the entire process. Be sure to check out the 11 foot tall pocket doors in our main dining area. We discovered them when we opened up the walls to widen the passageways. There is stained glass in every nook and corner on the right side of the building and grand old marble fire places on the second floor. We also put in an elevator to provide convenient access to the second floor. We have outdoor seating in the rear courtyard on the first floor and on the patio on the second floor.
